Phase 2 detoxification requires amino acids, like taurine and glycine, and more more.

Okay! Let’s talk about phase 2 detoxification.

Phase 2 is all about preparing the metabolites from phase 1 for phase 3: elimination. These toxins are bound to proteins that will escort them out of the body through bile and in feces and urine.

There are many pathways within phase 2 that help complete the breakdown of toxins, including:

Glutathione conjugation

Sulfation

Peptide conjugation

Glucuronidation

Acetylation

Methylation

There are many amino acids and antioxidants required for phase 2 detox, including:

Sulfur

Methionine

Cysteine

Taurine

Lipoic acid

Glutathione

MSM

Choline

Betaine

SAM/SAM-e

DMG

TMG

DMAE

Glucuronic acid

Glycine

NAC

Coenzyme A

Pantethine

Again, this is overly-simplified, but as you can see, there are many nutrients needed for proper phase 2 detoxification.

In order to properly detoxify most substances, we also need to be able to perform both phases...and phase 3, which is the actual process of elimination.💩

Suffice to say, when we’re trying to “detox,” it’s important to first make sure we have the raw materials to support both phases.

My favorite way to make sure I’m getting all the nutrients I need for phase 1 and phase 2 detox? Eating them!😁
