What is Your Metabolism Really?

metabolism

Today in the alternative health world, we hear so many terms like:
▪️
"Metabolism-boosting"
"Metabolism-healing"
"Metabolic food"
"Metabolic diet"
"Metabolic flexibility"
"Metabolic conditioning"
▪️
So many people associate being lean or fit with a “good metabolism.” But what does your metabolism really mean?
▪️
The sum of all the chemical reactions in the body is called metabolism. “Metabol” = change.
▪️
Anything that speeds up the rate of chemical reactions will increase our metabolism. When our metabolism is high, we experience vibrant health. Good temperatures, mood, sleep, bowel movements, fertility, skin, hair, nails, etc.
▪️
Anything that slows down the rate of chemical reactions will decrease our metabolism. When our metabolism is low, we experience symptoms. Cold hands and feed, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, constipation, infertility, soft nails, brittle hair, acne and aging, etc.
▪️
So you see, metabolism is so much more than aesthetics. I urge you to think about this the next time you see one of these words.
▪️
If you diet or workout a certain way just because it “boosts your metabolism.” Odds are, it may not actually be doing so. Most of the time, these things were created or looked at in a vacuum and don’t take into account how the rest of the body works.
▪️
Some food for thought!
