Cinnamon may improve PCOS markers.

insulin resistance nutrients pcos preconception ttc

Cinnamon is one of my favorite spices! And today we’re talking about its potential effects on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).

PCOS is the #1 hormonal and metabolic disorder among women of reproductive age. (McCook et al) One very common characteristic is irregular menstrual cycles and/or anovulatory cycles.

There are many other sympt0ms that someone with PCOS may experience.

↝Weight gain

↝Difficulty losing weight

↝Insulin resistance

↝Hyperinsulinemia

↝Type 2 diabetes

↝High triglycerides

↝Abnormal HDL/LDL elves

↝High luteinizing hormone (LH) levels

↝High anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) levels

Enter cinnamon, an herb that has been used as a flavor agent and a traditional herbal medicine for centuries. Various research studies have shown that cinnamon can improve metabolic markers in women with PCOS, including:

↬Improving menstrual regularity

↬Improving ovulation regularity

↬Reducing AMH levels

↬Reducing BMI

↬Reducing fasting blood sugar levels

↬Reducing insulin levels

↬Reducing total and LDL cholesterol

↬Increasing HDL cholesterol

↬Reducing triglyceride levels

Talk about a super herb!

One thing common across all of the studies is that more research is needed to determine the exact type and amount of cinnamon that will yield the best results.

I have some great cinnamon-forward recipes coming out in my recipe guide soon. Stay tuned! :)
