Soy is Not a Health Food
This is may be a touchy subject, but it's important to note that the overconsumption of foods like soy can potentially impact fertility and growth and development.
🔸
Phytic acid: inhibits absorption of calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Soaking, sprouting or slow cooking won’t neutralize it.
🔸
Trypsin-inhibitors (anti-nutrient): make it difficult to assimilate major nutrients such as protein — the primary limiting factor for growth — and are resistant to breakdown even after processing.
🔸
Goitrogens (anti-nutrient): interfere with iodine uptake, required for thyroid function and whose need skyrockets during pregnancy.
🔸
Pesticide residues: due to it being a GMO crop, which has estrogenic effects.
🔸
Aluminum content: a toxic metal with an affinity for accumulating in the brain, linked to endless neurological problems, readily crosses the placenta and has shown toxicity to placental and uterine cells.
🔸
PUFAs: soybean oil itself has been linked to diabetes, obesity, autism, liver disease, brain disease, anxiety and depression. It's estrogenic and it's an obesogen, a known compound that contributes to obesity.
🔸
Soy is an (hormone) endocrine-disruptor. It contains phytoestrogens which mimic the effects of estrogen in the body.
🔸
In "Real Food for Pregnancy," Lily Nichols, R.D., cites a study of 12,000 women that found those with the most soy intake also reported the most difficulty conceiving.
🔸
“Phytoestrogens are strong anti-fertility agents that may prevent you from becoming pregnant; and if you consume soy foods while pregnant, these endocrine disruptors can cross the placenta and have an adverse effect on the infant....and the timing of puberty later in life.” — Dr. Thomas Cowan & Sally Fallon
🔸
Babies exclusively fed on soy formula receive the estrogenic equivalent of 4+ birth control pills a day and have 13,000-22,000X more estrogen compounds in their blood than milk-based formula. Use of soy formula has been linked to premature development. And in my practice, I’ve seen it contribute to lifelong estrogen dominance in both men and women.
🔸
Some food for thought.
