If Your Cycle Were a Show, Ovulation Would Be the Star

Your period aka menstruation gets all the notoriety when it comes to the female cycle. The real ๐ŸŒ ? Ovulation.
๐Ÿ”ธ
In my last post I highlighted the power of progesterone, the true female hormone. The thing about progesterone is that most of it gets made when we ovulate.
๐Ÿ”ธ
Ovulation occurs around day 12-14 of your cycle. Estrogen spikes to trigger the release of luteinizing hormone (LH), which stimulates your ovaries to release an egg.
๐Ÿ”ธ
The ruptured follicle is now called the Corpus Luteum, which releases progesterone to prepare your body for pregnancy. Progesterone is the most prominent hormone for 11-14 days after ovulation. This phase of your cycle is also known as the Luteal Phase.
๐Ÿ”ธ
If your egg doesn’t get fertilized, your hormones eventually drop and your menstrual cycle starts all over again. Your Corpus Luteum will disintegrate and be passed out of the body along with the uterine lining during your period.
๐Ÿ”ธ
Ovulation is important for our overall mental and physical well-being for the same reasons progesterone is important for our overall mental and physical well-being. Progesterone is such a protective hormone and sufficient levels cannot be obtained without ovulating!
๐Ÿ”ธ
This is why I cringe (and get angry) when I hear doctors say “I don’t think a monthly cycle is necessary.” Sure, it’s not necessary for survival, but if you want to THRIVE, ovulation is essential!
๐Ÿ”ธ
Tracking your cycle is the first step to figuring out whether or not you’re ovulating. And knowing how to move and fuel yourself throughout your cycle is key to optimizing your progesterone production.
