How Low Blood Sugar Slows Down Your Thyroid (and Metabolism)
It’s like a seesaw. When stress increases, thyroid function decreases. Why?
▪️
90% of T3 is made from T4. And 80% of its conversion takes place in the liver. T3 is the one you want - it’s 4X more potent and the REAL metabolism-booster.
▪️
When our liver runs out of sugar (glycogen aka stored sugar), this conversion can’t take place. The liver becomes sluggish and so does thyroid conversion.
▪️
In addition to key minerals, all of our cells need T3 to function. If we don't get these, our overall metabolism slows.
▪️
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar aka STRESS) will impair thyroid function. EVEN if you’re on thyroid medication.
▪️
Unfortunately, most people’s livers are very poor at storing sugar from the constant blood sugar rollercoaster they’re on with PUFAs, iron, fasting, low-carb diets and other stressors.
▪️
As I mentioned in my previous posts, manually balancing your blood sugar is the #1 way to reduce stress. So it's also the #1 way to improve your thyroid function.
▪️
Where to go from here?
⏱️Eat at the right frequency for you
⚖️Eat balanced meals with protein, carb and fat
🍉🥔Eat the right kinds of carbs for you
🍊🦪Incorporate copper-rich foods to support thyroid conversion, like beef liver, mollusks and Vitamin-C rich foods
