Stress Means We Need More Fuel

“Stress seems to be perceived as a need for sugar.” - Dr. Ray Peat
▪️
Basically, stress means we need MORE fuel.
▪️
In all my posts leading up to this, we’ve talked about how:
▪️
🔥Glucose (sugar) is the primary fuel source of the body
↕️The adrenal glands modulate our stress hormones and our blood sugar
❌Stress stops digestion, stops thyroid hormone conversion, causes insulin resistance, creates inflammation, stops detoxification, imbalances hormones and slows down metabolism
📟There are 1,000+ kinds of stress
▪️
So what’s the #1 way we can keep stress at bay? Manually managing our blood sugar.
▪️
Blood sugar is kept in a very tight range by the body. 70-100 mg/dl is considered “normal” and 85 mg/dl is ideal.
▪️
When our blood sugar drops, the adrenal glands come to the rescue to bring it back up. See my “Amazing Adrenals” post. But this also comes with a price, slowing down our metabolism. See my “Intermittent Fasting Basics” post.
▪️
Giving our body a steady stream of its preferred fuel is the easiest way to manage our stress THAT WE HAVE 100% CONTROL OF.
▪️
The kind of carbs, the amount of carbs and the frequency at which you eat your meals will completely vary from person to person. It’s important to experiment and find out what works for you (or you can work with me!).
▪️
Some food for thought.
