Grounding
We could all use a reason to kick our shoes off, right? You have at least one: grounding.
Grounding, also called ‘earthing,’ refers to the direct contact with the Earth using your bare feet or hands. Keep in mind...we as humans used to walk barefoot and sleep on the ground.
It doesn’t just mean walking barefoot on the ground...swimming in the ocean or a lake and climbing rocks or trees counts too! Grounding is anything that literally puts you in ‘touch’ with nature.
This connection of the human body with the Earth helps neutralize free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS)...basically, it’s antioxidizing!
Due to its antioxidant effects, it can help:
-reduce inflammation, pain, stress and depression
-support your immune system function
-decrease blood pressure and viscosity
-speed up wound healing
-decrease DOMS
-normalize your Circadian Rhythm
-improve sleep
-rebalance hormones
-increase heart rate variability (HRV)
-move you away from the frozen ‘fight or flight’ state and more towards the ‘rest and digest’ state
Many people report that walking barefoot provides feelings of well-being. Plus, it’s FREE!!! Cheers to kicking off your shoes at the park on the next nice day!
