Each pregnancy drains 10% or more of a woman’s total body mineral supply
This post is based on “The Calcium Lie.” by Dr. Robert Thompson, OBGYN.

Minerals are so important. But they should especially matter if you’re #TTC Why?
*
“...each pregnancy drains [10%] or more of a woman’s total body mineral supply…”
*
Let’s say you weigh 150 lbs. 72% (108 lbs) is water and 28% (42 lbs) is minerals (if you’re minerally healthy).
*
“As the baby grows, it draws minerals from Mom’s body. Over the course of a 265-day pregnancy, the baby takes about [4 lbs] of minerals from the mother or about [10%] of her total mineral supply.”
*
Any deficiency or excess will be imprinted onto baby. And it can impact how smooth — or rocky — our pregnancy and postpartum go.
*
“When we start looking at the impact of a number of illnesses that commonly affect pregnancy including hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, hemorrhage, placental abruption and excess weight gain, it becomes clear that these problems are nearly all related to nutritional deficiencies and imbalances that are totally preventable and treatable...The same is true for conditions so prevalent after pregnancy, including depression, anxiety, weight gain, hypothyroidism and more.”
*
This is one of the reasons prenatals don’t meet my standards.
*
“The imbalance and inadequate chelated minerals in our current prenatal “vitamins (which are drugs, not vitamins) are quite literally woefully inadequate and may actually be harmful.”
*
And this is why one of my favorite tests for preconception prep is a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA). It not only tells you your mineral status (e.g. calcium, etc ), but can show you other markers (e.g. thyroid health, insulin resistance, etc.), which are also important for preconception prep.

Want to learn more? I’ll be talking about HTMA, mineral balancing, prenatal alternatives and more in my upcoming course. Stay tuned!
