Don’t Miss the Forest For the Trees

I often get asked these kinds of questions:
“Which supplement is good for A?”
“What do you think of the B diet?”
“If I do C, will it get rid of D?"

When we think this way, we’re missing the forest (big picture) for the trees (distractions aka symptoms). Symptoms are simply how the body expresses internal imbalance. They’re the body’s way of getting your attention to tell you that something isn’t right.

Most allopathic (conventional) medicine focuses on treating the trees (symptoms) and not the forest (big picture). Migraines? Take this for the pain. PMS or acne? Let’s put you on birth control to “regulate” your hormones. Sluggish thyroid? Here, take even more thyroid hormone. These quick fixes are BANDAIDS and likely won’t solve the root of the issue.

Quick fixes address the trees (symptoms) and not the forest (big picture). Let’s be real, as any quick fix EVER worked for you long-term?

Instead of focusing on the symptoms, we should be asking WHY we have them in the first place. Why do you have migraines? Why do you have PMS or acne? Why do you have a low-functioning thyroid?

The answer to “why” is often simpler than you think: imbalanced blood sugar, too much exercise, not enough sleep, poor stress management, not eating enough, not eating the right foods, too much chemical exposure, too little sunlight, etc.

I think part of the reason we don’t ask this question enough is because we don’t want to change. We know that the answer means we have to get a little bit uncomfortable. But it’s so worth it.

Instead of symptom-chasing down rabbit holes, we should be foundation-building. Next time, break the cycle and ask WHY instead of “what.” When you start taking more ownership of your health, you will have more control and can make much more informed decisions (FREEDOM). This simple change in mindset can truly set you up for long-term success and life-long health — vibrant health that everyone deserves.
