Carrots: Great for Getting Rid of Endotoxin (LPS) and Excess Estrogen

I LOVE raw carrots...not for their ‘beta-carotene’ or because ‘they taste good.’ They’re actually incredibly helpful for helping get rid of endotoxin. 🥕🥕🥕

What’s endotoxin? Another name for it is lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which is a cytotoxic (toxic to living cells) and neurotoxic (toxic to the nervous system) that is released by bacteria in our gut. Endotoxin contributes to weight gain, Alzheimer's, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, autoimmune disease and more.

Endotoxin is part of a vicious cycle of inflammation, increased stress which increases intestinal permeability (leaky gut), which then causes more inflammation. There are a variety of things that can trigger inflammation, but some of the culprits include consumption of polyunsaturated fats (PUFA), fasting, ketogenic diets and over-exercising, especially endurance.

Another thing I love about carrots is that they can help balance hormones by getting rid of excess estrogen hanging around in our gut. Most of us are estrogen-dominant (men too!) from eating too many plants (phytoestrogens), exposure to xenoestrogens, drinking alcohol, medications, etc. which can cause another host of issues. You might have:

-Headaches or migraines
-Depression or anxiety
-Allergies
-PMS
-Heavy periods
-Breast tenderness
-Night sweats or hot flashes
-Bacterial overgrowth
-Skin rashes or acne
-Excessive cellulite or weight in the hips
-Fibroids
-Endometriosis
-Low Libido
-Gynecomastia

Even though carrots have a ton of carotenoids (not very metabolic compounds), the benefits far outweigh this tiny downside. Raw carrots act as a squeegee and a natural antibiotic, helping get rid of unwanted bacteria and old hormones. If you’re someone that struggles with gut or hormonal imbalances, 1-2 raw carrots each day may be something you want to try.

I need easy and simple, so I peel a large carrot and am good to go. I would avoid baby carrots as they’re soaked in chlorine. If carrots make your stomach upset, you can always try bamboo shoots or well-cooked white button mushrooms. 🎍🍄
